Without a gold yet, Team Singapore’s highly fancied fencers at the SEA Games in Indonesia were hoping to end on a high note today (Nov 18), the final day of competition for their sport. They tried their very best but had to settle for silver instead.

Silver For Singapore

Competing in the final of the women’s team foil event, the quartet of Cheryl Wong, Joan Ang, Ruth Ng and Wang Wenying showed promise. But, in the end, they lost 16-30 to Vietnam while Indonesia and Thailand shared the bronze. On the girls’ performance, Ruth said, “I am happy that we prepared and trained as a team. That’s the beauty of the team event. Although we didn’t manage to bring back the gold that we wanted, I hope the journey ahead will be even better.”

More Medals

Meanwhile, over in Palembang, there were more medals from wakeboarding and sport climbing. In wakeboarding, the team of Sasha Christian, Kalya Kee, Matthew Christian, Jerald Foo and Andy Huang won silver, behind Thailand but ahead of the Philippines. In sport climbing, Adriel Choo and Judith Sim secured bronzes.
